The IB Diploma
The IB Diploma is the final goal of all students enrolled in the IB program. It is awarded at the end of the senior to every student that has met the IB requirements. There is a fairly large number of them, and if you have missed any, you will be deemed ineligible for the diploma. Luckily, these requirements are all made very clear by your teachers and, as long as you complete all your work on time, you should have no problem meeting them. The requirements are:
-
Enrollment in at least 6 IB courses over two years (3 HL, 3 SL)
-
These courses must be taken from these six subjects: Literature, Language, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts
-
-
Completion of at least 6 IB exams
-
Completion of the Extended Essay
-
Enrollment in TOK for two years
-
Participation in CAS
In addition to these requirements, there is a points system that dictates whether or not you will receive your diploma. You must achieve a total of 24 points in order to pass, TOK and the EE grant a combined 3 points, and the rest are based on your scores on the IB exams in the 6 different categories. So if you get 3 from TOK and the EE, and score a 5 on every IB exam you will have a total of 33 points. Therefore, meeting the 24 points requirement is not very strict and as long as you can consistently score around 4 on your IB exams.
