IB Exams

I’m gonna come clean. I’ve never taken an IB exam. My time in the program aligned with a global pandemic in such a way that I never was able to attend an exam in person. As such, my insight into this will be mostly surface level and you might be better off looking elsewhere for information.

IB exams (Specifically, external assessments) are tests that must be taken for every single IB course available. They are graded on a scale of 1-7 and your score on them contributes to your IB diploma. Much like IAs, the structure of the IB exam is completely different for each course. I have no first-hand experience, but IB says that they can consist of:

  • essays

  • structured problems

  • short-response questions

  • data-response questions

  • text-response questions

  • case-study questions

  • And in rare cases, multiple-choice questions

Sounds pretty rough. You should listen to what your teacher says about the requirements for your course and be prepared for the different types of examination. You might wanna study.
